Dr.
Donald Perras has been an educator since 1967.
He is currently an Associate Professor of Special
Education at Southern Connecticut State University.
There he has prepared more than 6,200 teachers since 1972.
He specializes in programming for students with serious
emotional disturbance and behavior disorders.
Dr.
Perras designed the Ecological
Model for providing teachers and administrators a
system of strategies to improve instruction and group
management. Based on his Ecological Model, he teaches
a certification course on classroom management to educators
who find themselves lacking the resources and skills to
adequately deal with diverse classrooms and challenging
behaviors.
Since
1990, Dr. Perras has also trained over 3,200 alternative
certification secondary teachers. Additionally, he has
provided on-site consultation to over 52 Connecticut school
districts, training and assisting hundreds of educators
on classroom management procedures. He is a specialist
in preparing new teachers to manage their classrooms,
especially in urban communities.
Dr. Perras
has also appeared on radio, spoken at national conferences,
and published articles in professional journals regarding
classroom management.
